Hint for today's math puzzlers.
I'd like to start leaving hints in my blog for all you folks who are beating your heads against my Facebook math puzzles. So here is what I'm going to do every Friday or Saturday depending on how hard I think the problem is. First of all, try the bad boy and if it still eludes you, look here for a tiny hint. So, here's today's hint: White Chocolate costs $60 a pound and Dark $135 a pound (very expensive, exotic stuff). We want 50 pounds altogether and we want the final mix to cost $90. Well, $90 is closer to $60 than it is to $135 so more of the 50 pounds must be White Chocolate than Dark. If you don't want to use Algebra and weighted averages to solve, you could always just start guessing weights that add up to 50 pounds where more of the weight is assigned to $60 per pound. The remainder of the weight would be assigned to the $135 per pound. Keep checking it against the cost of the mixture which would be 50 pounds X $90 per pound= $4500. Now, doesn't that make it clear as mud? Have fun!!
